Clouds over Half Dome, Yosemite National Park

Clouds over Half Dome, Yosemite National Park

I'm back, at least briefly. My latest update was over two years ago. The long hiatus was due to many things (the best of which was the addition of my daughter, who will turn two very soon), and it will continue to be difficult to regularly update. But, I very much wanted to make one contribution before the calendar reached 2015 and here it is on December 31st.

Shortly after moving back to California again (in 2012) my wife and I made a trip to Yosemite for an extended weekend. I seem to recall that our intention had been to hike to Sentinel Dome as it's one of our favorite places to take in the sunset within the park. However, with periodic rain and lightening we decided against standing on top of a high exposed granite dome. After a brief walk down the panorama trail, we returned settled on a spot to take in the sunset. Not Glacier Point and not Washburn Point, but rather a point between the two with a roadside pull-out. Although the rain never realy did manifest, the clouds were scattered and light moved and changed constantly, lighting up different parts of the scene. My preference for this particular photograph was due to the way the light caught the visor of Half Dome, setting it apart from the darkened cloud behind it. A few minutes beyond this the sky lit up in a great show of color, but that will have to wait for a future post.

Given that it was already over two years ago, that's about all I have to say about the photograph itself. This is the first photograph I've shared which was processed in Adobe Lightroom, which I've finally warmed up to in its latest version. In fact, I've grown to quite like it now (I didn't care for the earlier versions of it), and I am glad it's now bundled with Photoshop CC.

I hope to post more again in 2015, and to do so on a somewhat regular basis. Regardless, thank you for checking in and taking a look! All the best in 2015!
